While we wait for the weather to become more seasonal so we can all enjoy some outdoor tennis, I wanted to take the opportunity to provide information and updates to our valued Members.
COVID-19
The Tecumseh Tennis Club will be following any Provincial and City mandates as they relate to the ongoing pandemic. Currently, the Board recommends all Members practice responsible social distancing while at the Club. Wearing a mask at the Club while not on court is at the discretion of each Member. Please be respectful.
Club Events
While case numbers are rising during the sixth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Board has decided to defer holding any large events until case numbers decline (modeling data suggests this will be towards the end of May).
Club Opening Social
We look forward to hosting a Club Opening Social event so everyone can meet the Board, catch up with returning Members and meet new Members. We hope to plan this for late May/early June.
New Member Orientation
We are pleased to welcome more than 100 Members that are new to the Tecumseh Tennis Club this season. We plan to hold a New Member Orientation in late May where you will get the opportunity to ask any questions you have about the Club as well as the game of tennis.
Open Houses
As part of the Agreement with the City of Mississauga, the Club is required to offer open houses throughout the season to allow public participation and encourage Club membership. Dates for the Open Houses will be announced at a later time.
Tennis Programming
Participating in regular Club programs is a great way to meet new Members and improve your match-play. Many Members have been asking about when regular Club programming will begin and below you will find the latest information available.
Round Robins
Daytime doubles Round Robins (Mondays/Wednesdays 9-11 am) will begin the first week of May. Players of all skill levels are welcome and there is no need to sign up in advance to participate.
Evening doubles Round Robins (Tuesdays/Sundays 7-10 pm) will begin once all the overhead lights have been repaired, which is estimated to be by mid-May. We will keep Members apprised of the start date. Note that online sign-up is required to participate (same day sign-up) for the evening Round Robins and they will be divided into skill level, with one 90 min session for 3.0 and below players and one 90 min session for 3.0 and above players. If you are unsure of your skill level, please contact our Tennis Director for an assessment.
Note that the Board made the decision this season to move one of the evening Round Robins to Sunday, which will provide Members with more opportunity for casual play on weekday evenings.
Leagues
After a two-year hiatus, league play will return this season!
The Lakeshore League is for more competitive doubles players – both men and women. The Club plans to have 2 teams that field 8 players (4 men and 4 women) each week. They play home matches at the Club using all 4 courts on Wednesdays from 7pm to 10pm. When one team is playing a home match, the other will be playing an away match at another club in the lakeshore region from Mississauga to Hamilton. The two teams are in different divisions and play at different levels of competition. The Lakeshore League will start the week of May 30.
If you are interested in joining a Tecumseh Lakeshore League team, please send an email to tecumsehtennis@gmail.com
The Intercounty Tennis Association +55 League is known for both its competitive and social nature. This League offers senior club members (age 55+) the opportunity to meet their peers/tennis enthusiasts at different clubs. Teams are divided geographically into different Division levels. League matches commence at 10am on Thursday mornings and consist of 1 women’s, 1 men’s and 1 mixed match.

Tennis Ladders
Tennis ladders are for those Members who enjoy competitive play and who want an opportunity to play with other Members of similar skill level. The better you play, the more points you score, the higher on the Ladder you climb! This season there will be a Doubles ladder (same partner for the whole season, any gender welcome) and a Singles Ladder (any gender welcome). The start date for the Tennis Ladders will be communicated soon.
Court Booking
Please ensure you follow the court booking policies outlined on the website here. As a reminder, Members are only permitted to make one booking a day at the Club.
Court 1 and Court 2
The paper sign-up sheets to book Court 1 and Court 2 will start to be posted the week of April 25.
Court 3
The online system for booking Court 3 is already active and Members should have received an email with instructions on setting up their online booking account.
Court 4
Court 4 is booked with priority for lessons and clinics by the Tennis Director and his assistant coach. When Court 4 is not in use, Members are welcome to use this court (60 min for singles, 90 min for doubles). A tin of chalk will be left next to the Court 4 chalk board for Members to indicate when they start playing on Court 4. If Members do not document their start time, new players can take the court upon arrival.
Property Update
Windscreens have been installed on Court 4. The windscreens for Courts 1-3 will be put up once the weather improves, in late April/early May.
The electricity has been turned on and the overhead lights are operational, however a few bulbs need to be replaced on Court 4. These repairs will be completed by the City, hopefully by mid-May. The Tennis Director will be utilizing Court 1 (with the divider closed) for his evening programming until the lights on Court 4 are repaired.
We will continue to communicate to Members via email and website posts to share important news and updates.
