Welcome to the 2024 season at the Tecumseh Tennis Club! Read on to learn about the exciting changes for the Club and how that will impact the 2024 season, which includes later than usual registration and Club opening dates.
The City of Mississauga has confirmed that the upgrades we have all been waiting for will be completed this spring. This includes full reconstruction of all four tennis courts, fixing the drainage issues, leveling out the surface under the shelter, replacement of fencing, and removal of the existing light poles and installing brighter LED flood lighting. Although some of the work will be fully funded by the City, the court reconstruction will be a shared cost with the Club. I’d like to take a moment to celebrate our successful application for an Ontario Trillium Foundation Capital Grant that will help us to fund our portion of the court reconstruction.
Based on information from the City, the work is expected to begin in early March (weather dependent) and will continue for 3-4 months. The goal is to open the Club in July 2024. Although this sounds like a long closure (as I know we all want to get back on court after the winter), this temporary inconvenience will set us up to enjoy many more years of tennis at our favourite facility.
We will delay membership registration for the season and are planning to open registration for returning members on May 1 and for new members on May 15. We will keep registration fees the same as the previous year, which are still the most inexpensive in the area. Although this will be a truncated season, members will be able to enjoy playing at a fully renovated club when we open.
There are several benefits of joining the Club for the shortened season:
- Ensuring ‘returning member’ status, which gives you priority to register for the 2025 season;
- Ability to book private lessons with our Tennis Director;
- Ability to participate on our Club’s league teams (all matches will be held “away” for the first half of the season);
- Invitation to attend our grand opening celebration with our local MPP and representatives from Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Our Tennis Director, Steve Theodoropoulos, will be back to provide tennis instruction. He is eager to get back on court and help you improve your game, just as soon as the renovations are complete. With the truncated season, Steve will only be providing private lessons this year and will resume his popular group clinics in 2025.
Finally, if you were not at the Annual General Meeting, I am delighted to announce we have three new Board members – Michelle Albanese, Mike Robinson, and Dimitri Tsaltas. Our Club will be strengthened by their participation. I was also elected as the President of the Club after our previous leader, Russ Ford, stepped down from his role following a move to Ottawa.
As I begin my journey as the new President of the Tecumseh Tennis Club, I look forward to connecting with everyone, sharing our love for the game, and building a bright future for our Club.
